Dance at PHS!

Beginning Dance: The student will learn basic movements in ballet, jazz and contemporary dance technique and incorporate the choreography characteristic to dances of other cultures and time periods. The student will have the opportunity to choreograph, critique their own work, and distinguish commonalities between dance and other subject areas. The student will learn basic stretching, conditioning and poise, as well as proper performance etiquette.

Intermediate Dance: The student will learn intermediate level movement in ballet, jazz, contemporary and various dance styles. Students will examine historical and cultural dances, discuss dance styles and distinguish commonalities among dance and other subject areas. Students will train in stretching, conditioning, and poise as well as have the opportunity to choreograph, direct, and compare various dance styles.

Advanced Dance: In this course, the student will learn advanced memorized movement in ballet, jazz, contemporary dance, and other various styles. The student will examine historical and cultural dances, discuss dance styles, and distinguish commonalities between dance and other subject areas. The student will rehearse and perform choreographed routines and study and evaluate others' performances. The student will choreograph, direct, and compare various dance styles and genres. A copy of a current physical exam taken must be on file prior to the beginning of the course.
